Green Toys - More than Just an Eco-Friendly Toy Company
There’s much ado over going green these days, and to its credit, the Toy Industry has largely embraced the growing call for sustainability. In the 21st century, however, sustainability isn’t just about saving the planet. It’s an opportunity to reinvent business models with a focus on improving the world’s social, economic, and environmental challenges - and this is exactly what Green Toys set out to do nearly 14 years ago.
In 2007, the founders of Green Toys had a long-term vision to turn the toy industry upside down and inspire people to think differently about toys – not only to think about the ingredients of toys, but to think about the complete supply chain and how innovations in the way we manufacture – from the design to the packaging to the assembly line – affect our everyday lives.
Made Safe in the USA
Green Toys are 100% US-made, from manufacturing to assembly to distribution. As a result, we reduce greenhouse gases, energy and save on transportation. Through our tight local supply chain, we maintain stringent quality control and on-site factory presence, provide local jobs, and generate a whole lot of company pride.
Recycled Plastic
Green Toys demonstrates that recycling can result in something tangible and meaningful – old can become new. Our toys are living proof that milk jugs, just like the ones in your refrigerator and recycling bin, can ultimately end up back in your playroom. This helps close the loop for kids because they can see their own environmental efforts in action.
While recycled milk jugs are the primary ingredient, we sometimes integrate other types of recycled plastic (think yogurt cups!) and are constantly researching innovative, sustainable materials to stay ahead of the curve. All the plastic is collected by waste management, cleaned, shredded into flakes, reprocessed into our raw material, and mixed with food-safe, mineral-based coloring. Voilà, its playtime!
The milk jugs we use are 100% post-consumer recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Some products have components made from recycled polypropylene (PP) or recycled low-density polyethylene (LDPE). By using recycled plastic, we divert material from landfills, save energy, and reduce our carbon footprint.
Packaging
All products are packaged in 100% recyclable cardboard – no additives like blister packs, twist ties, or cellophane wrappers – and printed eco-friendly inks. On occasion, we’ll integrate packaging components made from 100% recycled water bottles when we need to make sure your product doesn’t fall out of the box.
Safety (it's #1)
We’re a California-based company, doing business in a state known for its strict safety and environmental laws. Our toys surpass US and international standards for BPA and Phthalates, and conform to the CPSIA, ASTM F963, and International standards EN 71and ISO 8124.
Product Design
From ideation to implementation, we build our toys with purpose. We start with a simple idea -- an iconic toy or traditional play pattern that has stood the test of time. We share the concept with parents, and ideas that make the cut get the Green Toys treatment. We sketch, develop 2D drawings and 3D CAD, and create 3D models integrating a subtle sophistication at every step along the way. Once we are sure we have the right recipe, we marry it with our process of using sustainable materials. We work hard on our designs, and don’t cut corners by using glue, metal, screws or paint. With all of this, we hope our toys inspire open play, imagination, creativity and encourage child development.
Sustainability is Here to Stay
Sustainability is no longer just a consumer trend, but is increasingly perceived as a business imperative that must be considered in every step of the supply chain. When it comes to sustainability, talking the talk isn’t enough –if you want to prove to consumers the authenticity of your commitment to sustainability, you also need to walk the walk.
